Talapady: ‘Driverless’ container lorry rolls backwards, comes to halt after hitting lane divider at toll gate

Mangaluru: A driverless container lorry rolled backward and finally came to a halt after hitting the lane divider at the Talapady toll gate here last night.

The truck’s driver Jaiveer Singh (60) had parked the Kochi-bound lorry near the toll gate and had disembarked from the vehicle to have tea after applying the handbrake. However, the truck began rolling in a reverse direction. Tollgate staff — Sathish Naralapadilu and Ashok miraculously escaped being injured in the mishap.

Singh said that the incident might have occurred due to a technical fault in the truck’s handbrake.

A bike, an auto-rickshaw, toll sensor pole were damaged in this incident.
