Udupi: Cop shoots himself dead with service rifle

Udupi: A policeman died from a gunshot wound after he allegedly shot himself on Friday.

As per sources Rajesh Kunder, a head constable attached to the Armed Reserve Police Force, shot himself dead with his service weapon.

The incident took place when he was on night duty at Adi Udupi High School. The SSLC answer sheets were kept at the school and the policeman was on the security duty there, sources said.

Police officers have visited the spot and are conducting investigations.

Assistant Superintendent of Police S T Siddalingappa told the presspersons that the deceased head constable had joined work on Thursday, April 28, after serving his suspension orders for a minor infraction. He had been assigned night duty outside the SSLC exam paper storeroom.

His lifeless body was found by the police personnel during the shift change in the morning, the ASP said.

The ASP assured further actions based on the complaint filed by his family in this regard.
