Mangaluru/Udupi: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed coastal districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on May 6. Following this, yellow alert has been issued in the coastal districts.

Many trees and electricity poles were uprooted due to the strong winds.

High-intensity rains in a couple of hours left low-lying residential areas and roads inundated. The gusty winds also uprooted trees and led to blackouts in Dharmasthala, Ujire, Gerukatte, Uruwalu, and Tannerpantha areas.

Waterlogging on key roads in several areas in Udupi, including Karkala, Brahmavar and Malpe disrupted vehicular traffic.

Unseasonal rains provided relief to people reeling under sweltering heat but caused massive losses in several areas.
