Udupi: Thief steals Rs 8.9 lakh from currency chest

Udupi: A case has been registered against an unknown thief who stole Rs 8.9 lakh from the currency chest of a Malpe businessman in Kola, Udupi district. Surprisingly, the chest had Rs 10.3 lakh but the thief only stole a part of the cash leaving around Rs 1.4 lakh.

As per the complaint filed by a man named Suresh Lamani, he had kept Rs 10.3 lakh in cash in a currency chest in his room and had gone to Malpe port in the evening.

When he returned, Lamani found that someone had broken the room’s door and also stole the cash from the chest.

Further investigations are underway.
