Police arrested four persons after a road accident in Ramanagara exposed their plan to discreetly dispose of a body in a lake.
The arrested are identified as Durga, her husband Raghu, Nagaraj, and his friend Vinod. Nagraj happens to be Durga’s brother.
The deceased identified as Soumya was murdered over a financial dispute between her and Durga. Reportedly, Durga had given shelter to Soumya at her residence and the duo were working together.
As per a DHNS report, the women had a financial dispute and Durga suspected Sowmya of stealing gold jewelery from the house. Recently Sowmya left Durga’s house without bothering to inform her. Durga somehow managed to trace her and brought her back home on Monday and repeatedly assaulted her with a blunt weapon causing her death.
The next day she alongwith her husband planned to dispose the body in a lake and they then called Durga’s brother Nagaraj for assistance. They set their plan in action and rode on two bikes — Nagraj and his friend, Vinod with the corpse between them on one bike while Durga and her husband followed them on another bike.
However things went awry when Vinod lost control of the bike after hitting a speed hump and the trio fell to the ground. Passersby called the police and the trio were taken to a hospital. Upon examination, doctors realised that nearly 24 hours had passed since Sowmya’s death. The duo was taken into custody and upon questioning admitted to the crime.
While Durga and Raghu had managed to evade arrest at that time, they were later apprehended from Channapatna where they had taken refuge at a friend’s house.
