Manipal: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Staturday said that next 25 years will be the “Amrit Kaal” for India and the nation is confident of becoming “Vishwa Guru.”

She was addressing graduating management students from TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) at its 36th annual convocation held at the Ammanni Ramanna Shetty hall here.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said honing skills is not enough, but they should be used to strengthen country’s macroeconomic activities by serving the community.

“That was TA Pai’s personality,” she said, showering praise on him and other members of Manipal Pai’s family for setting up a state-of-the-art educational and financial hub on the coast.

Sitharaman said the coastal belt was deprived of quality education during the British rule as people from here had to pursue their higher studies in Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. But, kudos to TA Pai and the family for building institutions of international repute.

She also reminded her family’s contact with TA Pai after whom TAPMI was christened. Commenting on the nation’s economy, Sitharaman said India is confident of becoming “Vishwa Guru.”

She said the next 25 years would be “Amrit Kaal” during the period when the fintech, engineering, medical, pharma, and other sectors are upbeat on registering big growth.

“When I was in Washington participating in the World Bank meet, everyone who had bilateral discussion with me, mentioned about Indian students’ captive imagination of fintech,” the minister said, requesting the students to contribute to India’s growth story by associating with the startup league.

This year, Sitharaman added, as many as 75 places will witness the setting up of digital banking units.
