Mangaluru: A gang of four attacked a youth with swords and attempted to kill him over Rs 7,000 ‘loan interest’ on Tuesday, May 24 morning near Ucchila Mullugudde here.

The victim has been identified as Uchila resident Arif (38), a rowdy sheeter.

It is said that Arif’s brother Kareem had taken a loan of  Rs 60,000 from a person named Naufal and also promised to pay additional interest on the amount. However, Kareem failed to pay the amount on time, following which his fishing equipment was seized by Naufal and his gang.

Later, Kareem paid the principal amount of Rs 60,000 and took his fishing equipment back from them. But, a verbal argument ensued between the gang and Kareem over Rs 7,000 loan interest which the latter refused to pay.

In a bid to take revenge, the gang attacked Kareem’s brother Arif with swords and escaped from the spot.

A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
