Bengaluru: The portico arch of a private hospital in Bengaluru collapsed on Tuesday early morning.

Four labourers — Moyuddeen, Chand Pasha, Rafi Saab, Basavaraj — who were stuck in the debris were rescued by Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services personnel after a three-hour search.

Luckily, there was no movement of patients or people when the incident took place at 6.15 a.m. in Saint Martha’s hospital premises.

DCP in-charge of Central Division Dr S.D. Sharanappa said: “We will verify the documents in connection with the incident and initiate action.”

Police sources explained that the portico collapsed due to the installation of insufficient load-bearing pillars.
