Kasargod: Two get life imprisonment for murder of retd school teacher

Kasargod: The Kasargod district sessions court sentenced two persons convicted for the 2017 murder of a retired teacher to life imprisonment.
The convicted — Puliannur, Chirikula resident Vishakh (27) and Arun (30) have been directed to pay a penalty of Rs 1.25 lacs, which would be handed over to the kin of the deceased.
The incident had taken place on December 13, 2017 night when the youth had barged into the residence of Janaki Teacher, 65, with the intent of robbery. They were scared that she would recognise them as she had taught them and thus strangled her to death. The accused also assaulted Janaki’s husband who came to the room alerted by her screams.
The accused had confessed to the crime during the investigation. Another accused identified as Rinish, 28, was acquitted by the court for lack of evidence to prove his guilt.
District public prosecutor K Dinesh Kumar argued for the prosecution.
