A man pushed his 13-year-old nephew into a 35-feet deep well in a forested area, allegedly to hide his illicit relationship, police said.
The incident happened in Goa’s Kudtari area on Tuesday evening.
The accused, Basavaraj Kagi lived in Madgaon. On Tuesday evening, Kagi lured the boy into a forested area on the pretext of picking the juiciest of mangoes. There, he pushed the boy into a well and fled from the spot.
Fortunately, the boy survived. Using the stone steps the boy climbed out of the well and wandered the wooded area during the dark night. Soon, he returned to his house and reported the matter to his family. A police complaint was later lodged at the Mayana Kudtari Police Station.
The accused was arrested by the police on Wednesday.
Police said the boy was privy to an illicit relationship of a Kagi. To keep the relationship a secret Kagi planned the whole plot, they added.
The boy, meanwhile, is recuperating at a hospital, police said.
