Belthangadi: 63-yo woman arrested for stealing gold ornaments from devotee’s handbag

A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of robbing gold jewelry from the handbag of a devotee at Southadka temple.

The arrested has been identified as Bhimavva, a native of Gadag.

As per the complaint registered at Dharmasthala police station, Balachandra, a native of Belthangadi and presently residing in Mumbai was visiting the temple along with his family. When they were standing in the queue to take prasadam after offering prayers to the presiding deity, the accused managed to pickpocket the ornaments from the handbag of Balachandra’s wife.

Police investigating the case managed to trace and arrest Bhimavva from Gadag in connection with the theft. The arrested has several theft cases registered against her at Murudeshwar, Bhatkal and Subrahmanya police station.
