Mangaluru: Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport foiled a gold smuggling attempt on Saturday, June 4, and confiscated gold worth Rs 32 lakhs from a passenger.
Officials said 24-carat gold weighing 624 grams and valued at Rs 32,72,880 was confiscated from a passenger. The passenger hailing from Kasaragod in neighboring Kerala had arrived at the airport from Dubai on an Air India Express flight IX384.
The gold was concealed in powder form inside a brown carton box carried as a piece of check-in baggage, officials said.
