World Environment Day observed at ‘Udayavani’ office; Samplings distributed

Manipal: Seeds and saplings of various varieties of trees will be distributed to the public from June 5 till June 12, said Chief Conservator of Forests – Mangalore Circle Prakash Netalkar.

He was speaking at the World Environment Day drive held at the Head office of Udayavani in collaboration with the government’s Forest and Horticulture Departments on Saturday, June 4.

Saplings of 40 tree varieties and around 3,500kg of seeds will be distributed to the public, he added.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M in his message called the public at large to join hands in protecting the environment so that the future generation can enjoy the same environment that has been left for us by our ancestors.

Dr. Sandhya S Pai, the Managing Editor of ‘Taranga’ magazine, who chaired the event, said that trees bring rain, rain helps crops, and crops sustain life. “If this chain breaks, the danger is not far,” she said.

Deputy Conservator of Forests – Kundapur Division Ashish Reddy, Udupi Division Forest Officer Subrahmanya Acharya, and Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Bhuvaneshwari delivered their good wishes on the occasion.

Mr. Vinod Kumar, the MD and CEO of Manipal Media Network Ltd, welcomed the guests. Mr Satish Shenoy, DGM (Business Development) Delivered the vote of thanks. HR Manager Mrs Usharani Kamath compered the event.

As part of the celebrations, samplings of useful native tree varieties were distributed among the public.
