Bengaluru: The concrete temple arch on a busy road fell on a bike rider, crushing him to death on the spot, at Adakamaranahalli here on Saturday. Several others were also injured in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Narasappa (30), a daily wage worker. He was on his way to pick up his wife and kids when the tragedy struck.

The archway of the Anjaneyaswamy Temple was constructed on the road that connects the Adkamaranahalli to the national highway 4.

According to sources, the rash and negligent driving by a lorry driver caused the tragedy. The lorry carrying an oversized load hit the arch and as a result, the concrete structure fell on the vehicles that were below it.

Narsappa, whose bike was passing the archway, was crushed under the concrete lintel, killing him instantly. Three more persons were injured and two bikes were also damaged in the incident, sources added.

Soon after the incident, the lorry driver fled from the spot.

Meanwhile, Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case and are investigating.
