Uppinangady: Based on a complaint of religious conversion, Uppinangady police raided a meditation center at Konalu Arla near Nelyadi on later Saturday night.
The police found 27 persons including 18 women, 8 men, and a 6-year-old boy — all from Shivamogga– at the prayer hall during the raid.
During the inquiry, the persons told the police that they had come of their own volition to the center for finding a solution to the problems of alcoholism and mental health issues.
Not converted
The persons also told the police that they had not converted their religion. “The participants told us that they had come to the center spending their own money after getting to know from YouTube videos that meditating at the center could improve their health,” police said.
Activists of a Hindu organization had also accompanied the Police during the raid.
