Mulki: 2 murder accused assault cops, try to flee custody; injured in police gunshots

Mulki: Shots were fired at two accused in a murder case when they tried to escape from custody, police said on June 11. The incident took place in the Mulki police station limits.

According to police, Arjun Moodshedde and Manoj alias Bindas Manoj, who were recently arrested in the murder of Rowdysheeter Raja alias Raghavendra by Panambur Police, were being taken to Mulki for identification and arrest of the other accused on the evening of . On the way, they assaulted the police staff on escort duty and tried to escape.

In a bid to stop their escape, shots were fired at their legs preventing them from running away. CCB police inspector Mahesh Prasad fired three rounds in the incident – one shot was fired in the air as a warning, and two were aimed at the legs of the accused, police said.

PSI Nagendra, ASI David, and AHC Santhosh Poojary also sustained injuries in the assault. Meanwhile, both the injured accused and the injured cops were taken to Shrinivas Medical College and Hospital.

Rowdysheeter Raja alias Raghavedra had been murderously assaulted by a group near  Supriya Bar in Bykampady at 7.30 PM on June 6. He had later died in the hospital.
