Kaup: Doing the right things even, when no one is looking, is much more than honesty; it defines one’s character. In such a display of character, a Sankarapura-based businessman sincerely returned the pouch full of gold jewellery he found to its rightful owners.
Canute Monis was riding his bike when he noticed a pouch on the road near the railway bridge on the Katapady-Shirva road. When he checked it, he found, gold jewellery weighing 40 sovereigns (about 320 grams) and other valuables in the bag. Instead of sneaking away with the pouch, Canute turned it in at the Katapady outpost of the Kaup police.
Meanwhile, a distraught woman, Ansira Banu, was frantically searching for the pouch she misplaced during an auto-rickshaw ride from Katapady to Shirva. She returned to her starting point in search of the pouch and started to inquire with the auto drivers if any bag was found.
Ansira Banu was directed to visit the outpost, where police asked for the description and contents of the pouch. They verified the description of the bag and its contents. After making sure that everything matched and was in order, the bag was returned to the family of the woman in the presence of the finder Canute Monis.
