Uppinangady: During the heavy rainfall witnessed on Sunday evening, the stretch of National Highway here was flooded and rainwater gushed into nearby shops and farms.
Locals blamed the shoddy civic work and the ongoing work of BC Road- Addahole National Highway 4-laning work for the flash floods. The storm water drains on both sides of the highway had been closed during the construction work, leading the water to flow on the road.
The National Highway was completely flooded at Bollaru in Nekkiladi village, near Kanchana Cross in Bajathur, and at Matha in Uppinangady Village.
Stormwater gushed into a godown and a shop belonging to Satish Nayak, and ground floor of Ashwini Electricals in Uppinangady.
There were reports of damage due to fallen compound walls in the area including that of Chandra Gowda in Periyadka. A huge tree fell on road leading to traffic snarls.
