Bantwal: Cutting corners by dumping waste by the wayside proved costly for a waste collection contractor after the panchayat officials not only slapped a fine on him but also made him remove the dumped garbage.

The incident happened at Amtady Gam panchayat limits, on Friday, June 17.

PDO Ravi of Amtadi gram panchayat had received complaints from Kuriyalapadu-residents about someone dumping the garbage in their area. Acting on the complaint, PDO and other panchayat officials launched an investigation. They found a bill receipt from a bar and restaurant from Farangipet in the waste dump, which led to the culprit.

When the officials asked the restaurant, it was found the garbage was being collected by the contractor of the Farangipet area.

The officials summoned the waste disposal contractor and took him to task. He was ordered to remove the illegally dumped garbage and also slapped a Rs 5,000 fine for littering in a public area.
