Observe and celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21: Education Dept to schools

Bengaluru: Observe and celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21, the state education department has issued a circular to schools in the state.

The schools will remain open only for half-day on June 21. To compensate for the teaching-learning hours, classes will be held full-day on Saturday, June 25, the circular added.

Schools should join hands with the local elected representatives, officials, SDMC members, teachers, and local Yoga organizations to celebrate the day meaningfully, the circular said.

In the first one and half hours of the day on June 21, Yoga exercises suitable for the age group should be taught, the department said.

The International Yoga Day celebrations are being held in a big way at 75 prominent heritage spots of the country. This year Prime Minister Narendra Modi would perform yoga at the Mysuru Palace premises on June 21 as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

In Karnataka, Yoga celebrations would be organized at Mysuru, Halebeedu, Hampi, Pattadakal, and Vijayapura (Golgumbaz).

Prime Minister Modi would inaugurate the event in Mysuru, while Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shobha Karandlaje would participate in the event at Halebeedu, the statement said adding Union minister for Coal Prahlad Joshi would do so at Hampi, IT minister Rajeev Chandrashekar at Pattadakal and Union minister for Energy Bhagwant Khuba at Vijayapura, PTI report said.
