Belagavi: Tensions flared in Goundawad Village here with the angry mob of villagers torching several vehicles after a village leader was killed on Saturday.
A local leader, Satish Patil, was killed in a fight over parking space. However, sources state that the murder was due to a feud over an ongoing temple dispute.
In the violence that broke out after the killing, a car and several two-wheelers were torched by the angry mob.
The fire services later arrived at the scene and doused the fire. Meanwhile, police have tightened the security in the area. DCP Ravindra Gadadi and other senior personnel visited the spot and took action to pacify the situation.
According to sources, there was a feud between the Birje family and the villagers of Goundawad related to the temple land. Satish Patil had been the villagers’ leader in the issue which reportedly irked the Birje family. The old feud is claimed to be the reason behind the murder of Satish in the guise of a parking-related quarrel.
