Mangaluru: Customs officials at the Mnagaluru International Airport here foiled another gold smuggling attempt on June 26.
Gold of 24-carat purity weighing 1.163 kg was seized from a male passenger hailing from Kasaragod. The seized gold is valued at Rs 60.24 lakhs.
The passenger had arrived from Dubai on Indigo flight 6E1102 which landed at MIA on June 26. The gold was packed in paste form mixed with solid gum and shaped into 4 oval-shaped packets.
These packets were concealed in the rectum of the passenger, customs officials said.
Menawhile the passenger has been arrested and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
