Mangaluru: “The proposed new Central Market building under the Mangaluru Smart City Limited will be initiated in one month. The stone laying ceremony will be organized in a few days”, said Premananda Shetty, Mayor, Mangaluru Mahanagara Palike.

The much-talked-about project under the “Smart City” in the coastal city, the construction of the all-new Central Market is back into play. The project which faced a lot of flak from certain sections of street vendors and the public has finally come out with good news.

According to reports, the construction process of the newly proposed market will kick start in a month. The market area spread across 3.61 acres of land, is scheduled to complete within a span of three years, at a cost of Rs 114 cr. The market building is expected to be five-story along with two basements for parking.

As per the sources, the place to dump the debris of the demolished building has still not been identified, due to which, the disposal process has been obstructed. The trucks too are finding it difficult to make their way to the site during the busy business hours of the day. Moreover, it is observed that some of the miscreants are deliberately throwing trash at the demolished site. The stones found in the debris are being used for various other works.

The surroundings of the market are expected to observe traffic congestion, once the construction process begins.
