The Dakshina Kannada (DK) District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday, July 1.

The DDMA said that though the IMD had sounded an orange alert for the DK district till 8.30 am tomorrow (July 1) morning, they are anticipating high rainfall tomorrow.

As a safety measure, it has thus been decided to declare a holiday on Friday to all the Anganwadi centers, schools, PU and degree colleges of Dakshina Kannada.

Earlier today, DK district Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V declared a holiday for schools on June 30 owing to the heavy downpour. Citing the safety of children who may find it difficult to go to school amid the heavy downpour, the DC declared a holiday for schools. He however said regular classes will continue for students who have already reached the school.
