Mangaluru: A 13-year-old boy in Surathkal allegedly cooked up a communal attack story only to seek attention.

The boy claimed that he was assaulted by two bike-borne men belonging to another religion while returning from a madrasa on Monday. The issue had triggered communal tension in Suratkal.

However, on Thursday, he confessed to the police that he cooked up the story to get attention at home and school. It is said that the boy had torn his shirt on his own using a pen.

Police officials claimed that the boy who comes from a poor family was suffering from low self-esteem because of his dark complexion and poor academic skills.

The boy’s parents and community leaders have been called to the police station to discuss the issue.
