Heavy rains and water-logged roads tend to make commuting a hassle and people often prefer to book a ride through Uber or Ola. However, a Mumbaikar Shravankumar Suvarna who tried booking a Uber ride was shocked at seeing that the 50-km ride would cost him nearly Rs 3,000.
Sharing a screengrab of the charges Suvarna tweeted “Flight to goa is cheaper than my ride home #peakmumbairains,” Suvarna wrote.

As per his screengrab, UberGo was charging Rs 3,041, Premier had a fare of Rs 4,081, and XL would charge a whopping Rs 5,159. Replying to a user, who reacted to his post, Suvarna said that the ride usually costs around Rs 800-1,000 without a surge.

Meanwhile, his tweet evoked several responses with a few terming surge pricing as extortion of customers.
This is extortion not surge pricing. It is high time for banning such practices or atleast some sensible ceiling needs to be imposed.
