Mangaluru: As the protest of the civic workers and drivers involved in waste management steps into the third day, the waste all around the coastal city has piled up, making the city a menace.

The protest called to meet various local demands of the civic workers and regularize their service has brought the waste disposal system to a halt. Heavy downpours have made the situation even worse, as the wet waste collected has poured out, making the stench unbearable to the residents.

Observing the situation getting worse, the municipal corporation had arranged for a truck for waste disposal in certain areas of the city. Reportedly, on Sunday, the civic workers who were in protest had blocked the truck movement, resulting in failed attempts to dispose of the waste.

Meanwhile, speaking to Sudina, Narayan Shetty, president of Mangaluru Safai Karmachari Association said, “We will end our protest only after we get a written assurance from the government on fulfilling our demands. We are expecting it to reach us within Monday noon. Once the letter is received, we will resume the waste disposal work”.
