A security guard at a private bank displayed exemplary honesty by reporting a leather handbag, containing 43 sovereigns of gold jewellery that he found in the trash of the ATM kiosk on July 5 morning.
The bank manager along with the security guard informed the Kundrathur police following which police arrived at the scene under the direction of Inspector Chandru and opened an inquiry.
Upon analyzing the ATM center’s CCTV footage they noticed a woman entering the kiosk and dumping the bag containing the jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh in the trash. Meanwhile, the parents of a 35-year-old woman who suffers from sleepwalking disorder and depression had verbally reported their daughter as missing from home since 4 am. The police contacted the parents of the woman, who had returned home by then, and showed them the photo of the woman seen in the CCTV footage to confirm her identity.
After confirming their suspicions, police asked the parents to check for the valuables at their home as they did not know that their daughter had taken away the jewels. Later, the cops told her parents that she had thrown 43 sovereigns of gold jewels in the trash. The parents were shocked and informed the cops that their daughter suffers from sleepwalking disorder, has been depressed for the past few months, and is undergoing treatment.
