Brain dead: Organs of 16-year-old donated to recipients

Dharwad: Organs of a 16-year-old brain-dead girl have been donated to the recipients in Hubli-Dharwad, Bengaluru, and Belagavi.

As per the reports, the girl was admitted to SDM Hospital on July 3 for treatment. She was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for higher treatment. On July 11, Monday, doctors declared her brain dead. Later, the parents decided to donate her organs to patients in need.

As per the Organ Retrieval Banking Organization (ORBO) process, the organs were removed successfully. The girl’s kidney was donated to a patient in Hubbali-Dharwad suffering from a kidney ailment. The liver was donated to a patient at Apollo Hospital Bengaluru through Hubbali airport and the heart was donated to a recipient at KLE Hospital Belagavi.

Meanwhile, green corridor (zero traffic) arrangements were made to transport the organs. Hubbali-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram and Hubbali airport authority officials helped in the swift movement of ambulances.

Meanwhile, the Hon’ble Chancellor of Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad Dr. D Veerendra Heggade has condoled the death of the girl and lauded her parents for taking up social responsibility and setting up an example in society.
