B’luru: Man runs car on used cooking oil since 9 years

As rising fuel prices continue to bother the common man, a youth from Bengaluru has been running his car on self-made bio-fuel for the last nine years.
Yes, you read it right. Avinash Narayanswamy has been purchasing used cooking oil from hotels and processes the same at his home to produce bio-fuel. The cooking oil is processed through 6-7 stages and around 700-800 ml of bio-fuel is obtained from 1 litre of cooking oil. The approximate cost of the bio-fuel is Rs 60-65 per litre.
Notably, the fuel is not just budget-friendly but it has lower emission levels when compared to a car run on diesel/petrol.
Avinash has been using the fuel to run his car since 2013 and so far the car has not had any technical issues. The fuel gives 15-17 mileage per litre of fuel. The car has run nearly 1.20 lakh kilometer so far.
Nothing goes to waste. The waste generated while producing the biofuel is used to make other useful products such as handwash, and floor cleaners, Avinash said.
