Mangaluru: A team from the Childline Dakshina Kannada rescued an 8-month-old girl child from her heavily inebriated mother on Friday, July 15.
The childline got a call on its toll-free number 1098 informing about a child in need of rescue. The caller told the helpline that a heavily drunk woman was seen with a toddler roaming around a government hospital in Mangaluru.
Acting on the complaint, the officials of the childline, along with the Pandeshwar police, intercepted the woman living on the streets. As the mother was found unable to take care of the child, Child Welfare Committee ordered the toddler to be separated from her and taken care of at a government facility for rescued children.
Locals said the woman was roaming the area heavily drunk for the past 15 days.
The childline team was headed by Childline Dakshina Kannada center coordinator Deekshith Achrappady.
