Belthangady: Man killed after trying to stop assault

Belthangady: A man died after being injured trying to stop a group of youths from assaulting another man.
The deceased has been identified as Jarappa Naik (55), a resident of Parari Shantinagar in Belthangady Taluk.
He had been injured while trying to stop a physical assault on Narayan Naik (47).
It is said that Narayan Naik had behaved inappropriately with the six-year-old girl about 10 days ago. A compromise was reached on this issue. Narayan was seen talking to the girl again. Angered over this, a group of youth attacked Narayan.
On seeing the assault, Jarappa tried to intervene and stop the fight. But in the melee, he too got injured.
Jarappa and Narayan Naik were later taken to a private hospital in Ujire. However, Jarappa was declared brought dead. Thereafter, the mortal remains were taken to the Belthangady Government Hospital.
Based on a complaint by the kin of the deceased, Belthangady police have registered a case and taken up the investigation.
