Youth murdered for mobile phone; three, including 2 minors held

Police have arrested three persons, including two minors on charges of stabbing a youth to death as he did not hand over his mobile phone to them.

The deceased, B Thomas (26) a native of Kerala was employed at Tata Advanced Systems Limited in Jigani Industrial area.

On July 14 Thomas was talking on his mobile phone while returning home after finishing his work shift at around 10.30 pm. At this time the miscreants pulled up in a scooter and told him to hand over his mobile phone. When Thomas refused to do so, they tried to snatch the phone forcibly.

However, when Thomas raised an alarm, one of the accused Puttaraju (23) took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. They later fled the scene with the phone. Thomas died of profuse bleeding.

Initially, the police that old enmity could be the reason for the murder but after analyzing the CCTV footage they realized that the miscreants had tried to rob him of the phone. The incident created a sense of fear among people.

Police had formed two teams to nab the accused in the case.
