In a case of daylight robbery reported from near the police commissioner’s office, miscreants robbed Rs 4.5 lakh cash kept in the dashboard of a parked car after smashing its windscreen.

The victim, Lakshmeesh (36), a business consultant had visited the Canara Bank’s Mahadevapura branch to deposit the cash, he procured after selling his mother’s gold jewellery, in his saving account to settle a housing loan that he had taken from Kuvempu Cooperative Credit Society Limited, Rajajinagar.

However, he could not deposit the cash as he was not carrying his PAN card which is mandated by banks in case of cash deposits exceeding Rs 50,000.

Lakshmeesh then headed towards the legal metrology department on Ali Asker Road for some other work he had in mind along with his friend named Rajesh. After going inside the building the duo found the office was shifted to a building at the back.

When they came out of the building, Lakshmeesh saw a person who was carrying a paper bag that looked similar to the cash bag he had kept on the dashboard of his car.

Lakshmeesh panicked and immediately ran toward the car to check if his cash bag was in the dashboard. However, he found that the car’s left front windscreen was broken and the cash bag was missing.

He raised an alarm and ran in the direction that he saw the suspect and found that he had reached a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle where his accomplice was waiting. The robbers fled the scene upon noticing Lakshmeesh and in the chaos, they rode into the wrong side, towards the Raj Bhavan, and disappeared into the traffic.

A complaint in this regard was filed by Lakshmeesh at the Vidhana Soudha police station. Upon examining the CCTV footage from the area, police suspect it to be the handiwork of a four-member gang because two motorcycles exited the legal metrology department at once and rode into the wrong side.

A DHNS report quoted Lakshmeesh saying that he was certain it was the handiwork of professional robbers. “They tailed me and I had no clue. They kept a distance of 200-300 metres,” he added.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a few suspects but it is not confirmed if they were involved in the act. Investigations are ongoing.
