Alamatti (Vijayapura): A young man disguised in a burqa was detained by the police after he tried to enter the Lal Bahadur Shastri Dam reservoir here in the early hours of Monday, July 25.

The person reportedly approached the security, disguised as a woman in a burqa, and asked to be let in. Security denied the request. As the voice of the person seemed to be of a man, they kept a close watch. The person reportedly walked a distance away, changed into a man’s attire, and appeared again at the gate asking the security guards to let him in.

Getting suspicious of his strange behaviour, police detained him for interrogation.

Police sources said that the youth claimed that he was a resident of Sakleshpur in Hassan district. His identity is yet to be verified as he addressed himself with several names.

Further, the young man says he left home as he was transitioning into a woman, but his family was searching for a bride for him.

The veracity of his claims is being ascertained, police sources said.
