Gururaja winning bronze at CWG: Minister announces cash award of Rs 8 lakhs

Bengaluru: Karnataka Minister of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Sericulture Department Dr. Narayana Gowda announced a cash award of Rs 8 Lakhs for Indian weightlifter Gururaja Poojary for winning a bronze at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

Gururaja, who hails from Kundapura, lifted a total of 269kg (118kg+151kg) to finish in third place.

The minister took to Twitter for congratulating Gururaja Poojary on winning a medal for India.

“What a proud moment for every Kannadiga Congratulations Gururaja Poojary from Kundapura for winning the bronze medal in Weightlifting in the Men’s 61kg Finals at #CommonwealthGames #gururajapujari,” he tweeted.
