Sagar: A vital piece of information regarding the sixth century (640-year-old) Shambhulingeshwara Temple at Belur near Keladi, was sought through the “Ashtamangala” (a branch of Hindu astrology).
As per the predictions by prominent Kerala astrologer Vedamurthy Valakunja Venkataramana Bhat and his team, the temple was desecrated by invaders centuries ago.
He has said that along with the main deity Shambhulingeshwara, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, and Lord Ganapathi were worshipped on the temple premises.
The presence of ‘Devagana’ Bhrangish was also on the premises.
Vedamurthy Bhat also mentioned that there was a well, statues, and much other evidence to prove that there was a temple in the area centuries ago.
It can be noted that in the year 2017, Vidwan B L Nagaraj found evidence of a temple while excavating the area. Based on this, the locals had arranged for “Ashtamangala” on June 19. Later from July 19 to 22 another round of astrological predictions was made.
