Madikeri: Huge cracks have appeared on the Devarakolli – Koyanadu road due to the incessant rains on Wednesday. The movement of heavy vehicles has been prohibited.

Tehsildar Mahesh, revenue officials, and police have visited the spot and inspected it.

As there is a possibility of the complete collapse near the Koyanadu bridge, highway traffic has been banned. As of now,  the area has been barricaded and light traffic is moving albeit with caution.

Heavy rain continued to lash Sampaje, Kallugundi, and Koyanadu areas. Payaswini river is flowing beyond the danger level due to torrential rains.

The national highway was inundated and vehicular movement was disrupted. Residents affected by the swelling river have been moved to safer places overnight.
