Madikeri: Monsoon continued its fury across Kodagu district, causing widespread damage in the rural and hilly areas. Huge trees were uprooted, landslides and mudslides cut off road connectivity, and normal life was thrown out of gear.
As red alert has been issued for the district, a holiday has been declared for anganwadi, primary and high schools on August 6 as a precautionary measure.
Urubailu, Chembu, Dabbadka, Upper Chembu and Peraje villages are receiving heavy rainfall. Due to a landslide that occurred at Dabbadka, people in the vicinity had to be relocated to safer places. A JCB pressed in to clear the debris overturned, but the driver escaped unhurt in the incident.
Bridges at Marpadka, Anehalla, and Dabbadka have been washed away and the road access has been cut off.
Rainfall has reduced in Sampaje, Kallugundi and Koyanadu, which were badly affected by waterlogging. As the damaged road near Koyanadu and Devarakoli is still unrepaired, only buses and light vehicles are being allowed on the road.
