Madikeri: The monsoon rains intensified in Kodagu, propting the IMD to extend the Red alert by two days. The heavy downpour has disrupted life in the hilly district.

The incessant rains have wreaked havoc in the district. River Kaveri is overflowing, creating a flood at the Triveni Sangam at Bhagamandala. Flood water has inundated the Iyengeri road in Bhagamandala. There are fears that Madikeri road may get submerged if the rains continue their fury.

In many parts, road connectivity got cut off as trees were uprooted by strong winds and rains. The trees also cut off power lines and many villages have been in darkness.

There were reports of property being damaged in the border parts of the district like Chembu, Dabbadka, and Sampaje.

As many as 41 members of 15 families of Tora village in Veerajpet taluk’s Kedamullaur have been shifted to the shelter at Tomara School.

IMD has predicted the rains to continue on August 7 also. A red alert has been issued for the whole district on Sunday.
