Mangaluru: Faded markings on road humps endanger motorists

Mangaluru: The paint on most road humps, installed on city roads to prevent accidents by speeding, has worn off. The safety devices intended to prevent accidents, caused by speeding, themselves are endangering the lives of motorists, especially two-wheelers. There is an urgent need to repaint the markings on the humps as soon as the rain subsides.
A few days ago, a pillion rider died after a rider failed to notice the speed breakers. In the absence of proper markings, motorists find it difficult to notice them, leading to accidents.
A cursory look at the road humps installed at important junctions of the city, including those at Ballalbagh, Urwastores, Kottara, and Kapikad, revealed the paint has been stripped off. Without the distinctive paint, the speed humps have become an impediment, especially during the night.
The local administration should have painted these speed breakers before the arrival of the Monsoon. However, years have passed since the road humps were repainted, lament the local residents.
Similarly, markings on zebra crossings in many junctions have faded. The markings on roads showing road limits are also in dire need of a retouch.
