Police have arrested a man for alleged harassment of his wife for the sake of dowry.
The 28-year-old victim hailing from Hyderabad filed a case against her husband Sudeep at Basavanagudi Women’s Police Station.
The complainant mentioned that she was married to Sudeep in the year 2021. As his family insisted on a lavish wedding, the victim’s parents held the ceremony at Ramoji Film City. The victim’s family spent nearly Rs 6 crores towards the wedding expenses and gifts that were given to Sudeep — Rs 55 lakh in cash, a Mini Cooper car, gold and silver ornaments weighing around 4 kgs and 200 kgs respectively as dowry.
However, Sudeep’s greed did not end here and he began harassing the victim to get further dowry from her parents. The victim alleged that Sudeep allegedly had pressured his father-in-law to transfer the ownership of two companies to her and pocketed all the earnings.
The complainant further alleged that Sudeep was addicted to drugs and would often call over his friends to party at their house. On one such occasion, Sudeep abused the victim and even urinated on her. When the victim questioned his behavior he threatened to kill her.
The victim brought his brutalities to the notice of her in-laws. However, instead of advising their son, they encouraged him.
