Following the furor over the tragic death of a youth in a road accident, while trying to evade a pothole, the Mangaluru City Corporation issued a clarification stating that they have been undertaking road repair works, including filling of potholes on regular basis.
The media communique stated that the restoration of roads that have been dug up to execute the gas pipeline connection and water supply works is being taken care of by the department concerned.
Further, it said that it has been conducting meetings with NHAI and PWD department officials for maintenance of the roads that fall under their limits.
The public has been advised to lodge their complaints over potholes or illegal road digging on WhatsApp number 9449007722 and helpline number 0824-2220306. Alternatively, they can also contact the ward engineers concerned, the communique stated.
The clarification comes in the backdrop of solo protests held outside the MCC here demanding a pothole-free road for safety of the citizens. Netizens too have criticized the authorities by questioning who is responsible for the bad condition of the roads. A few also voiced that if motorists have to pay penalties for traffic offenses, why authorities are not penalised for the bad condition of the roads that eventually lead to accidents and at times, even death.
