Remains of soldier who partook in ‘Operation Meghdoot’ found after 38 years

Uttarakhand: Mortal remains of Lance Naik Chandra Shekhar has been recovered after 38 years from an abandoned bunker in the Siachen glacier on August 13.

Chandra Shekhar was a member of the 1984 Operation Meghdoot, which was carried out by the Indian Army to capture Point 5965, considered to be a strategic point to track Pakistani movement.

As per the reports an official has said that on that fateful night due to an avalanche, around 18 soldiers including an officer and Second Lieutenant PS Pundir were killed. He said that 14 were found and five were missing.

Meanwhile, Chandra Shekhar is survived by his wife, who is now 65 years of age, and two daughters.
