Shivamogga stabbing incident: Main accused shot, injured in the leg while being arrested

Shivamogga: The main accused in the Prem Singh stabbing case was shot in the leg and injured while being arrested. The incident happened at Namo Shankar Layout on Thirthahalli Road in Shimoga late on Monday night, police said.
The accused identified as Zabiullah of Marnamibail, tried to assault the cops who went for his arrest. During the operation, Sub-inspector Manjunath Kuri of the Shivamogga Vinobanagar police station shot him in the leg, police added.
The accused is receiving medical treatment at the McGann Hospital, they added.
Two other suspects arrested
Meanwhile, Doddapete police arrested two accused in the stabbing case. The arrested were identified as Nadeem (25) Shivamogga’s J C Nagar and Abdul Rehman (25) of Buddhanagar.
Prem Singh, an employee at a cloth store was stabbed while returning home after work on the evening of August 15. He is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Situation remains tense:
There is a tense atmosphere in the city due to the Veer Savarkar- Tippu Sulthan flex controversy. Clashes between people of two communities erupted on Monday, August 15, regarding the flex of Veer Savarkar placed at Ameer Ahmed Circle. An attempt was made to replace Savarkar’s flex with that of Tipu Sultan.
As the situation went out of control, the police had to resort to the lathi charge.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been enforced in Shivamogga city and Bhadravati as a precautionary measure. A holiday has been announced for schools and colleges in Shivamogga and Bhadravati on August 16.
