Chikkamagaluru: Pro-Hindu outfits and the BJP on Friday staged protests against former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, who is on a tour of the Chikkamagaluru district.

In Menase Village near Sringeri, protestors planned to gherao the motorcade of Siddaramaiah. Chaos broke out when Congress workers tried to prevent protestors from doing so. Police had to intervene to prevent the situation from blowing out.

Even under tight police security, pro-Hindu organizations displayed black flags to Siddaramiah in the Makkikoppa village of Koppa taluk. The activists, who tried to gherao the car, were stopped by the police. The protestors were seen carrying Savarkar’s photograph, shouting slogans.

Congress criticizes government’s inaction

In a series of Tweets, Congress condemned the attack on Siddaramaiah and termed it the “State government-sponsored protest.” It accused the state government of collusion with the protestors and said that the protestors were not stopped even though there were intelligence inputs about the protests.

Congress also questioned the Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra for not taking strict action against those who attacked Siddaramaiah. It demanded the suspension of Kodagu SP for the security lapses.
