Bantwal: A girl who was under foster care was allegedly sexually harassed by a relative who was taking care of her and her brother. Both the victim and her brother were rescued by the government authorities and placed under the care of rehabilitation centres.
The girl and the boy reportedly took shelter at the relative’s residence in Allipade after their grandmother passed away. During their stay there, the relative who was supposed to protect the children, reportedly sexually harassed the girl almost every day.
However, the girl did not report the harassment as she had some health issues, sources said.
When the authorities came to know of the matter, Sarapady Gram Panchayat officials and Bantwal Child Development Project office personnel immediately took action and rescued the children. Both of them were sent to rehabilitation centers on August 19.
Under the directions from Bantwal CDPO Gayatri Bai H, the victim has been sent to the Swadhara Centre at Jappinamogaru whereas her brother is admitted to bondel Boys Care Centre.
