Rains to intensify along Karnataka coast; IMD issues Yellow alert for 3 days

Mangaluru/Udupi: After a break of several days, rain has picked up the pace again in most parts of the coast from Saturday night.
Moderate rainfall was recorded on the Karnataka coast on Sunday. In Dakshina Kannada, the sky was cloudy with dense clouds blocking the sunrays on Sunday morning. But, as the day progressed clouds dispersed, bringing only a moderate rainfall. Parts of Mangaluru, Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady taluks received moderate rainfall.
Intermittent rainfall in Udupi
Udupi witnessed intermittent rainfall on Sunday. Udupi city and surrounding areas received good rain throughout Saturday night. Various parts of Kundapur and Karkala taluk also received good rain.
Brisk rainfall has brought joy to the people, especially the paddy farmers. The rains were a godsend for the parched paddy fields in the coastal area.
Yellow alert for next 3 days
IMD, meanwhile, has predicted that the rain to intensify in the coastal areas in the next three days. A yellow alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on August 23, 24 and 25. Moderate to good rainfall is likely during this time, it said.
Fishermen asked to exercise caution
IMD said that seas are predicted to be rough as the winds will likely increase their speed. Strong winds of upto 40-50 kmph are expected, it said. Therefore, the meteorological department has asked the fishermen of the Kerala and Karnataka coasts to be careful.
