Vijayapura: The district has experienced a series of five to six earthquake tremors in the past three days leaving the public scared. In a bid to calm the nerves, the district administration has decided to request the government for a study of the recurring phenomenon.
From Saturday nigh onwards, local residents reported having felt repeated mild tremors in the Ukkali village of Basavanbagewadi taluk and Vijayapura city. They said this has occurred 5 to 6 six times in the past 3 days alone.
Locals say they are scared to live inside the homes as they feel the house walls shaking and things keep falling.
In the meantime, officials of the revenue department visited the village of Ukkali hit by the mild earthquake and collected information from the locals.
The district administration has decided to request the state government to send a team of geological experts to conduct a study on seismic activity. District Deputy Commissioner Dr Vijayamahantesh B Danammanavar said that he will write a letter to the government on Tuesday.
