Mangaluru: The Supreme Court will hear a batch of petitions on Monday challenging the Karnataka High Court’s verdict on Hijab.
A total of 23 petitions have been filed against the Hijab Ban ordered by the High Court.
A bench comprising Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia will be hearing the petitions filed against the HC verdict that ruled wearing Hijab was not an essential practice in Islam.
The hijab row erupted in Karnataka after a few Muslim girls were denied entry into colleges for wearing hijabs.
A case was filed before the Karnataka High court and in its order, the court ruled that Hijab is not mandatory and the prescription of the uniform dress code for students was not a violation of their fundamental rights.
